Decrypting Aspera Encrypted Files

Encrypted files are protected from unwanted access. When encrypted files arrive at their location, you need to decrypt them before you can use them.
Note: Decrypting files requires a passphrase that the sender of the package used to encrypt the package. Ensure that you have that passphrase.

Aspera Crypt works with Aspera Drive to decrypt downloaded files.

  1. Click Activity > Transfers > > Unlock encrypted files on the encrypted package you want to decrypt. This action automatically loads the encrypted files into Aspera Crypt. The Aspera Crypt dialog appears.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • Type the passphrase into the field and click Decrypt to decrypt the files in the folder in Transfer where you just selected to Unlock encrypted files.
    • Click Open Files or Open Folder to browse for your files. Use Open Files to locate your content-protected files, and Open Folder to locate a folder containing content-protected files. When your encrypted contents are loaded into Crypt, a status message appears at the bottom of the application that displays the number of items ready for decryption.
  3. You can adjust the following settings by clicking Settings:
    • Delete encrypted files when finished: When enabled, Aspera Crypt removes the encrypted files from your system after the destination (decrypted) content has been created.
    • Number of concurrent threads for decryption (drop-down list): Select from 1 (default), 2, 4 and 8, which determines the number of threads that are decrypting at any given time.
  4. You can view the output in the Aspera Crypt viewing window.

The decrypted contents appear in the same directory as the original encrypted contents. “(decrypted)” is added to the filename any time the decrypted file (without the .aspera-env extension) already exists in the same folder.

If your Aspera Crypt viewing window has multiple decrypted items listed, you can use the View drop-down list to sort the items by latest, finished, or failed.
