Setting Milestones for Work Steps

Setting a milestone value for each step in a workflow allows the user to view the work order progress on the Activities page (Work Orders > Activities.

A milestone is a numeric value from 0 to 100 that defines the relative percentage of importance for a particular step in workflow (10 percent importance, 50 percent importance). This value will be displayed as a percentage of the workflow that has completed, as seen on the Activities page.

To set the milestone for a step, do the following:
  1. Click Workflow and open a workflow in the Workflow Definitions list.
  2. Right click a step to open the actions menu, then click Set Milestone.
  3. In the popup, enter a value from 0 to 100, then click Set Milestone.

The value entered in Step 3 above is dependent on (and inclusive of) the value of the steps before it in the workflow. For example, in a given workflow, the importance of the first step might be 10 percent, and the importance of the second step might be 50 percent. However, while the milestone for the first step is 10, the milestone for the second step is 60, because you are adding 10 plus 50 to get to that point of completion in the workflow.

The following example shows how milestones are set for the steps in a workflow.

The milestone values for Step 1, Step 2, and Step 3 are the following:

Step Milestone value Percent Importance
Step 1 33 33
Step 2 66 33
Step 3 100 34

Below is the activities screen for this workflow after the milestone values have been applied.

As illustrated by the screenshot below, steps that are still in progress are blue, completed steps are green, and failed steps are orange; an error status is indicated in red.
