You need a license file for Virtual Catcher (obtained from your sales representative)
to install the product.
Note: If you have a previous version of Virtual Catcher installed, follow the
procedure in
Upgrading Virtual Catcher instead of the
procedure in this topic.
-
Download the product installer.
-
Go to the following location:
http://downloads.asperasoft.com/en/downloads/51
Click
the
Windows icon. From the Windows dropdown menu,
select
v2.4.2 - Windows.
-
Click Direct download and enter the user name
and password supplied by Aspera. If you have trouble locating your login
credentials, contact Technical Support.
-
To save the installation file to your downloads folder, click
Save File.
-
Open the .exe file from your downloads folder and
save it to the desired location.
-
Run the file
AsperaOrchestrator-VC-Setup-2.4.2.build_number-x86.exe
as administrator to launch the installation.
Note: Because Virtual Catcher is built on top of the Aspera Orchestrator
run-time engine, the services names and the operating system interactions
appear with the name Aspera Orchestrator.
-
In the welcome screen for the setup wizard, click
Next.
-
Accept the End-User Licensing Agreement by selecting I accept the
terms in the License Agreement.

Click Next.
-
In the Aspera Service Account dialog, enter and then confirm a password.

Note: If you previously installed an Aspera product, you will need to use the
service account password that you set up for the previous
installation.
-
In the Choose Setup Type dialog, click Typical.
-
In the Ready to Install dialog, click Install.
The Setup Wizard initiates the installation process.

-
Click Finish to complete the process.
-
Open the Virtual Catcher user interface.
In a web browser, go to the following URL, where
virtual_catcher_ipaddress is the IP address or fully
qualified name of the machine on which Virtual Catcher is
installed.
https://virtual_catcher_ipaddress/aspera/orchestrator/
Note: If
you see a page with the message "Service Temporarily Unavailable" instead of
the product UI, open the Windows Services panel and restart the services
(HTTPD Apache Server (Aspera), MySQL Server (Aspera), and Aspera
Orchestrator).
You may get a warning popup like the one pictured below. If so, click
Advanced and add a a security exception for the
Virtual Catcher website.

-
In the login page, enter Login: admin; leave the Password field
blank.

Note: Before the initial login, the product identification at the top of
the page is "aspera orchestrator". If this does not change to "aspera
virtual catcher" after installing the license file, you may have installed
an incorrect license file. Contact
Technical Support or your sales
representative for assistance.
-
Create a password for the admin user.
In the Change Password dialog, leave the Current
password field blank and enter your new password, then enter it
again in the Confirm password field.
-
Install the license file.
-
In the Update License page, click Browse to
import your license file, or paste the contents of your license file
into the text box.
Note: If you install Virtual Catcher with an evaluation license, and
that license is still valid when you purchase the product and
receive a customer license, you must delete the old license in the
UI before adding the new one.
-
Click Update and validate license.
At this point, you can navigate to any page in the UI.
