Installing the Aspera Remote Web Server and Monitor Service

  1. Before running the installer program, do the following:
    1. Obtain the Active Directory account information from your IT administrator.
    2. In SharePoint, go to Central Administration and add this Active Directory account as a Site Collection administrator.
  2. [Optional] If you want to have more than one administrator for Aspera for SharePoint (for example, if you want to allow multiple people to map SharePoint Document Libraries to Aspera nodes), you can create a group in SharePoint for this purpose. For detailed information on creating a group, see the Microsoft SharePoint instructions.
  3. On the computer that will run the Aspera for SharePoint remote web server and monitor service1, run the installer for the remote web server and monitor service:
    AsperaSharePointRemote-version.msi
  4. Click Next through the screens of the installer program. Note the following details about the installer's screens and fields:
  5. On the End-User License Agreement screen, accept the terms of the license agreement.
  6. On the Choose Setup Type screen, for most deployments, you can choose Typical.
Note: Select Custom only if you want to install either the Aspera remote web server or the Aspera monitor service, but not both.
  7. On the Remote Web URL and SharePoint Site Collection URL screen:
    • In the Remote Web URL field, type the address of your remote web server. For example: https://remotewebexample.us.
    • In the SharePoint Site Collection URL field, type the address of your SharePoint Site Collection. For example: https://sharepoint.example.us.
    • In the Log Files Base Folder field, type or browse to the location where you want the logfiles to be placed. The logfiles will record events about the remote web server and monitor service. By default, this field is set to C:\ProgramData\AsperaSharePointLogs. Click Next.
  8. On the Path and Password for Remote Certificate screen, type the authorization information for the certificate that you will be using on the remote web server for this installation.
    On this screen:
    • In the SSL Certificate Name field, click Browse. Then, in the list of certificates that are installed on the IIS server, select the SSL certificate for your remote web server.
    • In the Remote Certificate Path field, click Browse and navigate to the location of the wildcard SSL certificate that your SharePoint server will use for high-trust applications.

In most cases, this is a .pfx file.

  9. On the Client ID and Issuer ID screen, the installer populates the fields with example values. You can use these values, or replace them with the client ID and issuer ID that were generated when you set up SharePoint for high-trust applications. For assistance, contact Aspera Technical Support.
Note: If you replace the example values, you can verify that the new values have been saved by opening the Web config file at C:\Program Files\Aspera\SharePoint Remote\ and finding the values for ClientId and IssuerId. This file resides at the root of your remote web server installation, and stores your configuration settings.
  10. On the Active Directory Account screen, type the information for your Active Directory account, which you obtained in Step 1.
  11. [Optional] If you created an administators' group for Aspera functions (see Step 2), you can enter it on the Aspera Administrators Group Name screen.
  12. On the Ready to Install screen, review the information you have entered in the previous installer screens. If you need to make corrections, click Back. When you are ready to install the Aspera for SharePoint remote web server and monitor service, click Install.
